FAQ: General Massage Therapy FAQ’s

Can a Massage relieve my pain?

Many of our clients think so!  All of our therapists at Dynamic Touch are specially trained, not just to help you relax, but to address muscle pain and tension.  Your therapist will ask lots of questions about how much it hurts, and how long you’ve had the pain, and may even analyze the way you move in order to customize your session.  You should bring along X-rays or MRI reports.  Your therapist may also suggest stretches to help you maintain your after-massage feeling of relaxation, as well as exercises to strengthen weak areas and improve your posture.  If you have a special concern about an injury or medical condition, go ahead and schedule an appointment, and if you want, you can contact your therapist a day or two before your appointment to talk about it.  Rest assured that if they don’t think they can help you, they will tell you up front.

Which massage do I need?

What makes you consider having a massage today? If you are in pain, we recommend a Therapeutic Massage or ART Session, which has pain relief as its main goal.  If you prefer a soft, soothing massage, then a Deep Relaxation Massage is the one you want.  Sports/Deep Tissue is our most common request, for a more brisk, firm massage for general muscle maintenance, with special attention to your problem areas.

When you arrive you and your therapist will discuss your needs, and if there’s a better choice, you and your therapist can change it when you get there.  See full session descriptions under the Services tab.

If you are pregnant or then you should schedule a Pregnancy Massage  to make sure you are scheduled with a specially trained therapist. If you are a mother with a baby 3 months or less, then the “New Mother Massage” is for you.

If you are a cancer patient/survivor, then you should book an Oncology Massage (even if it’s been 20 years since treatment) to make sure you are scheduled with a specially trained therapist.

Note: Only therapists who are trained for ART offer the ART session.

Which therapist is BEST?

We hire only the best therapists.  All therapists at Dynamic Touch have tons of training, and years of experience.  Many clients switch easily between therapists, knowing that they will be well taken care of.  The only limits would be for ART and cancer because not every therapist has these special certifications.  The system doesn’t allow you to book with a therapist who is not trained in those specialties.

How many sessions will I need?

It is very hard to say.  Every person is unique and will respond in their own way to the massage.  It may take one session, or it may take many.  You will need to talk to your therapist about that after they’ve had a chance to evaluate you.  If you have a special concern, leave us a message, and someone can call you before your appointment to talk about it.

Does my insurance cover my massage?

Unfortunately, it is pretty rare for insurance to cover massage these days.  Start by calling the Customer service number on your insurance card to see if Dynamic Touch or Kathy Flippin are listed as a provider, and if so, what the benefits of your policy are.  If you cannot afford a massage without insurance coverage, then you should NOT book your appointment at this time.  Instead, leave us a message and someone can call you back.

What is a typical massage session like?

Every massage is unique, because it is customized for the needs of each client.  However, there are certain things that are common.  Before you start, your therapist will ask you about your goals and expectations.  You will also be asked about your health history.  Together you and your therapist will create a session plan to focus on your problem areas. The massage is done on a massage table, and you will be covered with a sheet the whole time, or you can have the massage done over your clothing.  Typically the therapists use massage lotion to glide over the skin, but it can be done without.  For any massage, even a deep tissue massage, the pressure should never hurt, and if it does, you should say something right away.  If you’re not sure you will like it, then you should schedule a short, 30 minute session to start.  Most important, it is YOUR session, and your therapist wants you to be comfortable, so Speak Up!

What should I wear?

“It is important to know that your modesty will be protected at all times, so wear as much as you want and your therapist will accommodate.  If you choose to undress, you will be covered with a large sheet the whole time. Most people are comfortable wearing their underclothes, or nothing at all.  Only the area being worked on will be uncovered, such as an arm or a leg.

“For an ART session, you should wear or bring shorts or thin sweat pants and a t-shirt or sports bra.

Can you send a therapist to come to me?

Yes, but you can’t book it online.  Contact us, and tell us about what you are looking for. Someone will call you back to discuss and schedule. Sometimes there is a travel fee, which ranges from $15 to $40.  Travel fees are per trip, not per massage, so booking sessions for more than one person per visit is more economical.

What payments do you accept?

Cash, Checks, Visa and MasterCard. You can secure your appointment with a credit card, and pay differently when you get there.   We also accept SpaFinder gift cards and Dynamic Touch gift certificates.

Will my card be charged when I make my appointment?

No.  Our system won’t charge you when you book.  You don’t pay until you come in.  We only take your credit information to secure the appointment.  You can secure your appointment with a credit card, and pay differently when you get there. We do have a 24-hour cancellation policy (see below).

Can I schedule without giving my credit card?

No.  Certainly you understand the therapists are very much in demand, and every hour is valuable to them.  Leaving your credit card tells us that you’re as serious about your massage as we are.  To make sure you don’t forget, you will get an email confirming your appointment, as well as an email reminder 2 days in advance.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

There is no charge for cancellation if you call MORE than 24 hours before your appointment.

With LESS than 24 hours notice, the full session fee is charged.

If you have a gift certificate, and you cancel in less than 24 hours you can choose to pay the fee with your credit card, or forfeit the gift certificate.

Do I have to undress?

No, but you may if you wish. Your therapist will leave the room to give you privacy to change after you’ve discussed the goals of your session. Undress only as much as you’re comfortable with. The therapist will work around whatever clothing you leave on. If you wish to be completely undressed, you may. You will be kept covered the entire time; only the limb being massaged is uncovered at any time. Your modesty will be respected at all times.

What if the massage is too firm or hurts in some way?

Just tell us. Each therapist has the desire to take care of you and improve your health. Your pain threshold and comfort are respected at all times. Just tell the therapist “that’s a little too much pressure there” and he or she will adjust to your preference. Remember the therapist cannot read your mind!  This is feedback, not criticism, and it’s welcomed and appreciated.  You will never be encouraged to suffer through pain during a massage.

Should I tip the therapist?

Our clients are never expected to leave a tip, and our therapists will never ask for one.  As with many service industries, on occasions where you feel that you have received an exceptional level of service, a 10-20% tip is a common way to show appreciation. NEVER tip if you feel you have received poor service, and please contact management and let us know if you were dissatisfied.
