Payton Grantham is an Advanced Neuromuscular Massage Therapist and Health Educator who specializes in Lumbo-Pelvic pain and dysfunction. He was first introduced to massage by going to a Bodywork Demo at NHI in Santa Ana. There he met their director, Cynthia Ribeiro, who assessed the history of his chronic sciatic/low back and treated his pain with NMT techniques. Once he had experienced the profound effects and benefits of this work personally, the fire of curiosity was lit. Now he can help people with a specific pain that he can directly relate to, in order to create a response that gives the patient confidence that this condition is manageable. “In this field, or any field, if you’re not expanding your knowledge, you’re losing information.” Bringing that into his massage sessions, his clients are excited to collaborate with him and their other healthcare providers, creating a truly integrative healthcare experience.
When asked what inspired him to become a Massage Therapist, Payton says:
“My experience with rehabilitating my own low back pain was difficult. At first, I was misdiagnosed with Sciatica to later find out I have an extra lumbar vertebra. When my chronic back pain became debilitating, that’s when I sought education. When I came to understand my condition and I expanded what I knew, I was not only able to accomplish relieving my own pain, but learned skills to help others with theirs; because I believe no one should live in pain – that’s what brought me into the massage therapy field.”
